Espresso Berry Blast with Chia Seeds: a lasting energy boost

Lots of people need a cup of coffee to kick-start each day while others seek their buzz from a nutritious smoothie. Smoothies and long drinks like an American are more, well, American. Italians however, like to start their day with a short drink. That is an espresso, although it’s simply known as a coffee here in Italy. So if you walk into a bar/cafe and ask for a cup of coffee, you’ll be getting an espresso. If you want any other type of coffee, then you’ll have to be very specific. This delicious rich espresso berry blast smoothie is packed with both benefits of a nicely brewed coffee and a rich smoothie. Unlike just plain coffee this does not give a sudden and excessive spike in energy. This smoothie releases just the right amount of boost you need for the day.

Some of my favourite smoothies are the ones made with berries. Which are both delicious and nutritious. Alongside the chia seeds, which have so many health benefits, and the taste of berries incorporated with honey is simply refreshing. For me, this espresso berry blast is a perfect addition to breakfast. You can make this for yourself or someone special to show you care.  Also perfect for a busy workday or study session. Espresso and Berry Blast with Chia Seeds

  • 150 ml Coffee Espresso
  • 1 tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • ½ Cup Frozen Berries
  • Cup Coconut Milk


  • Brew a your cup of coffee (espresso), I made mine with a french press; make yours to sooth your taste.
  • Put the chia seeds in a small bowl and pour over the hot coffee. Let it soak for 2 minutes.
  • Pour the chia seeds and all other ingredients in a food processor (I use a Nutri-Bullet) and blitz until smooth.
  • Place into your favourite jar/glass/cup, top with chia seeds and berries. Serve and Enjoy.
