Nutella Banana Bread – Not your classic marble cake

Bringing the best of both worlds together to make this decadent Nutella banana bread. Everyone’s favourite chocolate spread is not just great for topping on sliced bread, pancakes and waffles. Nutella is a great addition to any great dessert. However, baking with Nutella is a whole other level, why limit it to just spreading. we already know chocolate and bananas work well together and the average banana bread recipe calls for chocolate chips. Banana bread, just like Nutella is dearly loved my most. So it’s only right to combine both into what most people would say is a global favourite. This recipe offers swirls of chocolatey moist loaf complimenting the classic vanilla-like swirls. Thus, creating a marble cake effect. Allow me to say, it doesn’t get better. A not so classic recipe that produces a decadent buttery cake with a sumptuous twist.

The result of this recipe is a moist “half and half like” cake best served warm. Even those that are not fans of Nutella chocolate spread will become converts after the first bite. For someone who loves a good treat, I always find a way to have 2 in 1. Similar to my Half & Half Cinnamon/Chocolate rolls. Cake recipes, in general, have a special place in my heart. In short, I could say cake is my first love. A cake recipe was the first I ever came across and tried off one of my mum’s old recipe books.

How to make Nutella Banana Bread:

As with every baking recipe, always start by Pre-heating your oven and preparing the pan, tin or tray. For this recipe set your oven to 180 degrees and grease a rectangular loaf baking pan with butter.

Now to make the bread, start with butter at room temperature. Place into a bowl with sugar and whisk until creamy. Once the butter and sugar are paler in colour and the eggs and whisk until it is all combined. 

Peel and place the bananas in another bowl and mash them into a paste. Pour the mashed bananas into the egg mixture and add the flour, baking soda and baking powder. Whisk it all together then separate the batter into two bowls.

In one bowl stir in two tablespoons of Nutella and in the other bowl stir in one teaspoon of vanilla extract. Take a scoop of batter from each bowl at a time and place it into the greased baking pan until all the batter is in the baking pan. Run a skewer through the pan in a swirl like motion to create a marble effect.

Place the pan into the preheated oven and bake for 55 minutes to 1 hour or until a skewer or toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove from oven and set on a wired rack to cool. Serve and enjoy.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 bananas very ripe
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 ½ cup flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 50 g butter
  • 2 tbsp nutella
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder vanilla flavoured

Instructions
 

  • Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees and grease a loaf tin with butter.
  • Cream butter and sugar in a bowl and whisk in the eggs. In another bowl mash the bananas.
  • Pour the mashed bananas into the egg mixture and add the flour, baking soda and baking powder.
  • Whisk all together and separate the batter into two bowls. Stir Nutella into one bowl.
  • From each bowl, take a scoop of batter into the greased tin, then swirl the batter with a skewer.
  • Bake in a pre-heated oven for 55 minutes to 1 hour or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove from oven and set on a wired rack to cool. Serve and enjoy.
